# Save and reuse protocol templates in AnyScript

> Templates let you save a set of products once and reuse it across multiple protocols. Learn how to create, browse, apply, and delete templates.

Protocol templates are saved product sets that you can drop into any new protocol instead of building from scratch. If you regularly prescribe the same core supplements — a gut health stack, an immune support plan, or a post-workout recovery set — a template lets you populate those products in seconds. Templates store the products and quantities; you still assign a client and add dosage instructions per protocol.

## Creating a template

You create a template from inside the protocol builder's cart, after you have added products.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the cart">
    In the protocol builder, click **Cart** in the top bar to open the cart panel.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Save Template">
    At the bottom of the cart, click **Save Template**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name the template">
    A dialog opens. Enter a name for the template — something descriptive like "Gut Reset Starter" or "Children's Immune Support". Press **Enter** or click **Save template** to confirm.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The template is saved immediately and appears in your templates library. If you navigate to **Practice > Protocols > Templates**, you will find it listed as a card showing the product count, estimated total value, and a preview of up to five products.

<Note>
  Templates save the cart contents exactly as they are at the time of saving, including quantities and any refill cadence that was set. Dosage instructions and client assignments are not saved with a template — those are added fresh each time you use one.
</Note>

## Browsing templates

Go to **Practice > Protocols** and select **Templates** from the navigation. Your templates appear as cards in a grid. Each card shows:

* The template name
* The number of products
* The refill cadence (if set)
* An estimated retail total
* A preview of the first five products

## Applying a template when building a protocol

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the protocol builder">
    Go to **Practice > Protocols** and click **New Protocol**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click the Templates button">
    In the top bar of the builder, click the **Templates** icon (the grid layout icon). A popover opens with a search field and your list of templates.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Search and select">
    Type to filter by name, then click a template to apply it. The builder loads the template's products, sets the title to the template name, and applies the refill cadence if one was saved.

    <Warning>
      Applying a template replaces the current cart contents. Any products you had already added will be removed. The assigned client is preserved.
    </Warning>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Customise and save">
    Adjust quantities, add or remove products, assign a client if you have not already, and set dosage instructions as needed. Then save the protocol as usual.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You can also start a protocol from a template directly from the templates page by clicking **Use template** on any card. This opens the builder pre-populated with that template's products.

## Deleting a template

On the templates page, click the **trash** icon on any template card and confirm the deletion. Deleting a template only removes the template itself — any protocols already created from it are unaffected.

<Tip>
  If you find yourself building the same protocol for new clients regularly, save a template immediately after your first build. It takes less than a minute and saves significant time across your practice.
